Kabale, Uganda — Police in Kabale District have arrested 72 young people suspected of orchestrating an alleged job scam targeting jobseekers with false promises of employment.

According to authorities, the youths were detained following reports that several individuals had been running a recruitment scheme that tricked jobseekers into paying fees in exchange for non-existent jobs.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the operation and to identify any additional suspects involved.

The police warned the public to remain vigilant, advising jobseekers to verify any employment offers before making payments or sharing personal information.

“Fraudulent recruitment schemes continue to exploit vulnerable youths. We urge the public to report suspicious activities immediately,” said a police spokesperson.

This arrest is part of intensified efforts by security agencies in the Kigezi region to crack down on scams and other fraudulent activities amid high unemployment in western Uganda.

The arrested suspects are expected to be presented in court once investigations are concluded, and formal charges filed.

Authorities emphasized that combating job scams remains a priority, with the aim of protecting citizens from financial exploitation and ensuring that legitimate employment opportunities are safeguarded.
