Two dead, one injured in Jinja fatal road crash

Jinja City, Uganda:- The Territorial Police in Jinja are investigating the cause of the road crash that claimed the lives of two people and injured another person in a morning fatal road crash on Thursday morning, Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi, has confirmed.
The crash that involved a taxi registration number UAS 239E and a motorcycle registration number UGW 566F occurred at Gaddafi roundabout in Jinja City, killing two of the three occupants of the motorcycle and injuring the other.
The deceased individuals include the rider, whose identity was yet to be identified by press time, and the passenger, Brian Mutesasira. The two died on the spot, while another passenger on the motorcycle sustained injuries.
“Jinja traffic police is establishing the possible cause of the fatal accident that occurred at Gaddafi roundabout,” SP Mubi said, noting that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction at the time of the crash.
According to preliminary police findings, it is reported that both the driver and the rider were proceeding to Jinja city central business area from Bugembe before the crash.
Police responded and conveyed the bodies to the Jinja hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the survivor was getting treatment at the same facility.
In the aftermath of the collision, police detained the taxi driver, Job Ssemakula, at Jinja Central Police Station to assist with investigations.
SP Mubi reiterated the police’s commitment to road safety and called for vigilance among all road users to prevent further loss of life.
The accident adds to the growing list of fatal crashes reported across the country, as authorities continue to crack down on reckless driving and enforce stricter traffic regulations.
