Rwenzori Lions Gear Up to Clash with Express FC in Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32

KABOWA, UGANDA – In what promises to be a thrilling encounter, Rwenzori Lions, the underdogs from the Kitara Regional League, are set to lock horns with the seasoned giants Express FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32 at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku Stadium on February 17, 2024.

Rwenzori Lions, formerly known as Kiyinda Boys FC under the FUFA Big League entity, secured their spot in the round of 32 with impressive performances, propelled by the goals of Ojoka Divid and Kozaina Kule. Under the tutelage of coach Nsamba Andy, the team has been on a remarkable journey and is now eyeing a spot in the round of 16.

Express FC, boasting a rich history in Ugandan football with 10 Uganda Cup trophies to their name, confirmed their berth in the round of 32 after defeating MYDA 1-0 on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

However, Rwenzori Lions have faced a setback as they prepare for this crucial encounter. The team will be without the services of key players Thembo Alex and Ahad Masereka, who are nursing injuries. Despite this setback, the Lions remain determined to put up a formidable fight against Express FC.

In their final training session at the Nabweru Playground, the 24-man squad led by captain Besse Alex(C) underwent rigorous preparations under the watchful eye of Coach Nsamba Andy. The squad, which includes talents like Diella Masereka, Mandela Nelson, and Evarest Masereka Kasese, is eager to make their mark in Ugandan football.

The clash between Rwenzori Lions and Express FC is expected to be a fiercely contested affair, with both teams vying for a spot in the next round of the prestigious tournament.
