Mother Finds 11-Year-Old Son Dead After Being Beaten by Grandmother Over Indiscipline

The boy was later found dead by Nanono Sylvia when she attempted to wake him up for school.

An unfortunate incident was reported by Serubiri Badru Male, 70 years old, Chairperson of Bukibira Zone LCI, Nindye Parish, Nkozi Sub-county, Mpigi District, at Katonga Police Station involving a grandmother who caned her 11-year-old grandson for misbehaving but found him dead when trying to wake him up for school the next day.

It is alleged that on 11/02/2024 at 11:00 AM, Namuli Prossy brought schoolbooks for her son, Semwanga Julius, whom she found with his grandmother, Nanono Sylvia, at her home in Bukibira village.Namuli Prossy asked her son why he always disappears from home. She instructed him to fetch a stick for punishment. Semwanga Julius complied but didn’t return.

At around 2:00 AM, Semwanga Julius was brought by two men who informed his grandmother, Nanono Sylvia, and mother, Namuli Prossy, that they found Semwanga Julius stranded at Nabyewanga Trading Centre. It was at this point that his grandmother became angry, fetched a stick, and began beating him while his mother watched. The boy was later found dead by Nanono Sylvia when she attempted to wake him up for school. The grandmother was arrested, and relevant statements were recorded.
