UNEB Launches Exam Marking Blitz: 14,000 Examiners Ready for PLE and UCE Papers
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially commenced the marking process for this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) papers, according to UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule. The sorting of scripts for transfer to the 33 marking centers, with 13 allocated for PLE and 20 for UCE, has begun.
With about 6,000 examiners assigned to PLE and 8,000 contracted for UCE, the board anticipates releasing the first set of PLE results in the third week of January 2024, followed by UCE results a few weeks later.
Simultaneously, the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams are entering their final phase, scheduled to conclude on Friday, December 1. Despite minimal disturbances caused by weather conditions in some areas, Jennifer Kalule assures that the UACE exams have proceeded smoothly.
In response to a circulating document on social media claiming errors in UCE Physics papers and suggesting a supplementary exam, Kalule dismissed the document as fake. She emphasized that all examination papers undergo rigorous validity testing, and there are no errors in any of the papers. UNEB reiterated its communication methods, stating that official circulars are sent directly to schools or through the designated portal, and they do not rely primarily on social media for announcements. Kalule warned the public about potential extortion schemes related to fake announcements, assuring that the UCE examination concluded successfully, and the board is progressing with subsequent processes and field conduct.
