Over 250 Israelis Killed, 1,800 Wounded In A Deadly Surprise Hamas Attack On Israel
Dozens of Palestinian militants infiltrate Israel from Gaza by land, sea and air ■ Some 2,500 rockets fired from the Strip ■ At least 250 Israelis killed, over 1,800 wounded ■ Army strikes Hamas targets in Gaza; 256 Palestinians reportedly killed ■ ‘Substantial’ number of civilians and soldiers held hostage in Gaza
Israel will evacuate all residents living in towns near the Gaza border within 24 hours, IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Sunday.
Hagari added that the fighting in the southern kibbutz Kfar Aza remains ongoing, saying the soldiers are fighting heroically to free the hostages held by Hamas inside the Israeli community there. The Israeli army has also killed over 400 Palestinian militants and arrested dozens of prisoners, Hagari said.
When asked whether the Israeli army is carrying out roof-knocking procedures in Gaza, Hagari refrained from answering directly. With roof-knocking procedures, which were commonly employed during previous Israeli military operations against Gaza, residents of targeted buildings are warned in advance – usually by telephone – to leave the area, and the army then uses small missile strikes to notify civilians of larger impending missile strikes.

Clashes are ongoing in the south between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces, and residents are urged to remain inside. The Israeli Home Front Command also issued an alert on Sunday morning calling on residents of Israeli communities near the Gaza border to seek shelter and remain in their bunkers for at least ten minutes, warning of a hostile aircraft intrusion.
