The 19th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement Heads of State and Government, representing 120 member states, is scheduled to take place from January 15 to January 20, 2024, at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. Following this, from January 21 to January 23, Uganda will host the Third South Summit organized under the framework of Group 77 and China, a coalition of developing countries.

Uganda is set to assume the chairmanship of NAM for the next three years and the chairmanship of G77 and China for one year. This dual responsibility is expected to bring a significant economic boost to the country, fostering international collaboration and diplomatic ties.

In tandem with the preparations for the summit, China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has been actively involved in the expansion and upgrading of Entebbe International Airport. The completion of a new 10,000-square-meter cargo center in April marked a significant milestone, and construction of a state-of-the-art terminal building covering an area of 20,000 square meters is currently halfway complete.

The upcoming NAM and G77+ China summit is not only a diplomatic gathering but also a showcase of Uganda’s commitment to hosting world-class events and fostering international partnerships. The collaboration with China in infrastructure development further underscores the importance of such summits in facilitating economic growth and cooperation on a global scale.
