Sudhir Warns Public After AI-Generated Deepfake Video Promotes Fake OredexiaMarket Scheme
By Gad Masereka
Business magnate Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has issued an urgent public warning after a sophisticated artificial intelligence-generated video began circulating widely on social media, falsely presenting him as the public face of a dubious investment platform called OredexiaMarket.
The video, which spread across multiple platforms, employs cloned synthetic voice technology and manipulated visuals to create a convincing imitation of Ruparelia endorsing what is presented as a lucrative financial opportunity. It is packaged to resemble a credible media broadcast, a design choice that experts say is deliberate and intended to suppress the skepticism that might otherwise protect viewers from engaging.
Ruparelia disowned both the video and the platform without qualification. “This is completely fake. I have not launched any such app, and I am not involved in anything called OredexiaMarket. People must be extremely cautious. AI is now being misused to deceive the public,” he said in a statement verified by journalist Andrew Irumba.
In the manipulated footage, the fabricated version of Sudhir urges viewers to take advantage of an investment opportunity and join a platform that will help families become wealthier, classic language associated with Ponzi-style schemes that rely on urgency and social proof to secure deposits before victims can verify the claims being made.
Irumba, who confirmed Sudhir’s position directly, described the incident as a warning about the trajectory of digital fraud. “This is no longer speculation. AI is actively being weaponized. The public must verify every investment claim before committing their money,” he said.
Digital security observers note that deepfake technology has lowered the barrier to impersonation fraud significantly, making it possible for actors with limited resources to produce convincing videos that can be difficult for the average viewer to identify as fake. The public is advised to treat any video of a public figure endorsing an investment product with extreme skepticism, to verify claims through official channels, and to report suspicious content to both platform administrators and the Uganda Police Force Cybercrime Unit.
