UPDF Mourns The Sudden Death Of Deputy Air Force Commander, Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu
Entebbe, Uganda – In a tragic turn of events, Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, the Deputy Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force, passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday at his official residence in Entebbe. The UPDF confirmed the demise of the esteemed military leader, attributing his death to a sudden incident that occurred in his bathroom.
UPDF Spokesperson Felix Kulayigye conveyed the sad news, expressing profound sorrow and condolences on behalf of the UPDF. He recounted that Brigadier General Kiggundu had been in good health throughout the day until the unfortunate incident that claimed his life.
Born on April 3, 1977, in Bugonga, Brigadier General Kiggundu commenced his illustrious military career by joining the UPDF on July 27, 1999, in Hoima. His dedication to service and pursuit of excellence led him to undergo extensive training, including specialized instruction as a paratrooper in Israel. Over the years, he honed his expertise in various areas, including Pilot Air Force management and operations, combat training, and command tactics.
Among his notable achievements, Kiggundu served as the Squad Commander of Uganda’s fighter jets, showcasing his leadership and operational prowess within the Air Force. His contributions were instrumental in advancing the capabilities and effectiveness of the UPDF’s aerial operations.
“The UPDF fraternity and Uganda People’s Defence Air Force deeply mourn the loss of Brigadier General Kiggundu, especially during this critical juncture where his expertise was invaluable in enhancing our Air Force capabilities,” Said Brigadier Kulayigye, reflecting on the profound impact of the late commander’s absence.
