Members of the Karambi Subcounty NRM Cadres Forum in Bukonzo West, Kasese District, have expressed concern about the current trend of politics in the country. Represented by Baluku Seezi Lyamikono, they argue that the current involvement of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba in the political arena while President Museveni is also being touted for the 2026 elections has left them with no clear side to lean on, as both are deemed fit for the position. They express uncertainty about whether to support the father or the son.

However, they are optimistic that Museveni and Kainerugaba will decide who should contest the 2026 presidential race, further calling for a harmonized position to mitigate division among supporters. Baluku further stated that the structure of the NRM is not felt on the ground in Karambi sub-county, which has allowed the opposition platform to thrive in the area.

In response to these concerns, Minister for ICT and National Guidance Godfrey Kabbyanga reiterated that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is a civic organization with pillars and objectives that do not intend to turn it into a political party. He stated that General Kainerugaba has always emphasized that anyone who fights him is fighting his father and vice versa.

The Minister affirmed that Uganda will never witness Muhoozi and Museveni on the same ballot paper for the same position, but he noted that some people are excited and the opposition is scared of Muhoozi’s limelight, which has led to the spreading of statements causing confusion. “I don’t foresee a situation where General Museveni and General Muhoozi can be on the same ballot for the same position,” he stated.
