Tragic Accident in Kyankwanzi: One Dead, Over 100 Injured as School Truck Overturns
In a devastating incident in Kyankwanzi District, a school truck carrying 200 students from St Paul Kasooro Secondary School overturned, resulting in one student dead and more than 100 injured. The victim, identified as 16-year-old James Murarira, lost his life in the accident.
The Fuso truck with Registration Number UBK900A was en route to Butemba College for a post-primary school football contest when the driver, Samuel Mitala, lost control at Kasooro Village, Kikandwa Sub County. Survivors reported that the driver was speeding before the truck overturned multiple times.
Justus Kakiga Nayisindi, a survivor, expressed that they survived by divine intervention, highlighting the severity of injuries sustained by some of their colleagues.
Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Ms. Racheal Kawala, stated that investigations are ongoing, and an official statement will be released once details are gathered.The Ministry of Education has emphasized the need for safe transportation methods like buses or vans, warning of the risks and legal consequences of non-compliance. This accident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
