Delegates participating in the NAM and G-77 + China Summits have expressed positive feedback, highlighting the favorable image projected by Uganda during the conferences. The January-held summits were deemed successful, thanks to the warm hospitality exhibited by Ugandans throughout the period. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi commended journalists for effectively disseminating information about the summits.

During the summit, Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni assumed the chairmanship of the NAM for three years and the G-77 + China for one year. Dr. Baryomunsi emphasized that Uganda’s newfound positions would allow it to exert influence on global decisions, urging Ugandans to take pride in this significant milestone.

However, in the same period, members of the opposition, including Robert Kyagulanyi, the President of the National Unity Platform, and the lord mayor Elias Lukwago, engaged in the unconventional act of planting banana trees in potholes. According to the minister, this gesture was deemed a lack of patriotism and an attempt to gain political capital. He argued that the opposition should have demonstrated a positive approach, emphasizing that such activities should unite the country instead of resorting to what he deemed as cheap politics. Minister Baryomunsi further expressed disappointment that the opposition opted for activities intended to disrupt the ongoing summits.

He emphasized that politicking should not be carried out at any time and for any reason, regardless of political affiliation.

Meanwhile, plans are underway to improve roads in Kampala and other cities, aiming to give a facelift to the infrastructure. The implementation and construction of roads in Kampala are currently in progress, with a substantial budget of 2 trillion shillings secured for this purpose.
