Cabinet has received an update on the preparedness to host the NAM and G-77 + China conferences scheduled from January 15th to 24th, 2024. Minister of State for National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga, briefed the press at the Uganda Media Center, stating that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided an overview of the ongoing preparations. The Minister assured that Uganda is well-equipped to host both the Non-Aligned Movement and G77 + China summits, with the expectation that all ongoing tasks will be completed by December 30th, 2023.

The Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development is coordinating entertainment arrangements, while the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance is focused on ensuring a stable network for efficient communication. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Local Government is overseeing the improvement of town councils, municipality roads, and beautification efforts. The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities is actively ensuring that hotels are ready to receive guests. The Minister appealed to Ugandans to express a high level of hospitality as the country prepares to welcome international guests.

Minister of State for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, disclosed that KCCA has imported 500 garbage bins for proper waste disposal, with plans to procure about 10,000 bins. He said Ugandans shall be sensitized on how to use these bins.

Building owners are urged to paint their properties for beautification and ensure proper waste disposal by tenants. Additionally, owners of pets are advised to keep them indoors to prevent any harm from KCCA authorities.

Permanent staff has been deployed to desilt drainage channels to prevent city flooding. The Minister emphasized the illegality of sex work under Ugandan law, urging sex workers to cease public activities. The vicinity around the summit venue, Commonwealth Resort, and all hotels accommodating delegates has been designated as the NAM corridor, with a strict prohibition on motorcycle operations in those areas.
