Mystery Tragedy Unfold As Mityana Police Hunt For Suspected Ritual Killer

By Gad Masereka

In a chilling turn of events, the town of Mityana is gripped by fear as police launch a manhunt for Joseph Muwonge, the prime suspect in the ritualistic murder of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Nakamate.

The shocking discovery unfolded when Nakamate’s decomposing body was found in her rented room in Kitavujja village, Sekanyonyi town council, Mityana district. According to her landlady, Rose Nakku, the couple, Muwonge and Nakamate, had been living together and were known for frequent domestic disputes. However, no one anticipated the tragic end that awaited Nakamate.

Nakku revealed that the couple’s house had been securely locked for over a week, raising no suspicions among the neighbors. It was only after a foul stench emanated from the closed residence that concerns were raised, prompting Nakku and others to alert the Sekanyonyi police station.

Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional police spokesperson, detailed the gruesome scene that unfolded. The police found Nakamate’s body in an advanced state of decomposition, having seemingly spent almost two weeks inside the locked house. Shockingly, the body exhibited signs of a ritualistic killing, with the nose and tongue missing.

Kawala reported that the investigation points to Muwonge, Nakamate’s boyfriend, who is now on the run. Mityana police have issued alerts to all stations in the vicinity, urging the public to be vigilant and report any sightings of Muwonge. Kawala appealed to Muwonge’s relatives and friends to cooperate with the authorities and hand him over to face charges of murder.

This horrifying incident comes on the heels of another tragedy in Mityana, where just weeks ago, Jackson Tumukunde was arrested for allegedly suffocating his girlfriend, Lydia Kobusingye, to death. Tumukunde confessed to the crime, claiming suspicion of infidelity as the motive. The town is now left grappling with the recurring nightmare of domestic violence and gruesome murders, leaving the community on edge and authorities on high alert.
