This morning’s heavy traffic on the Lira-Soroti route was halted after a fuel truck flipped over and caught fire.

The petrol tanker with the registration number SSD 321V/ Traffic was paralysed along the busy Lira-Soroti highway this morning after a fuel tanker overturned and caught fire.

Despite the fact that no casualties were reported, it is still unknown where the 32-year-old Kenyan driver Mohamed Ibrahim is. A catechist at St. Philips Church of Uganda Gwengabara, where the incident took place, Thomas Ogwal Ochol, claims that they were able to protect church property and make sure that no one was injured in the fire.

Another eyewitness, Kilara Okwanga, told Uganda Radio Network that the loud explosion woke her up minutes before the driver?whom she believes to be?knocked on her door and ordered her to leave the house.

Several household items, sacks of groundnuts, corn, and money that were taken out of the house in an effort to save it in case of a fire, according to Kilara, have been lost. She only succeeded in keeping a metal box full of cash from their Village Savings Group.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, a spokesman for the North Kyoga Police, acknowledged the occurrence but stated that no cases of lost property had yet been reported. Adding that inquiries are being conducted to determine the accident’s cause.

A truck of a similar type flipped and caught fire in June of this year in Myene sub-county, Oyam district, but the two occupants, including the driver, were able to escape just in time.
