By Mukidi Hannington
A senior four student from St Michael High School in the Rubirizi district was discovered dead inside the school store.
According to the headteacher, James Rukaijakare, Moses Atukwatse, 18, a resident of Kambiringi cell in Rutoto sub-county, was suspended approximately a week ago after escaping from school.
He was then requested to return to school with a roll of barbed wire as a fine, but according to Rukaijakare, Atukwatse returned to school without the barbed wire on Tuesday and was sent home.
He claims they were taken aback when the student was discovered dead in the store. According to Martial Tumusiime, a Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, preliminary investigations reveal that the deceased sneaked back into school at night and was noticed by one of the students ascending the wall of the school store, who reported him to the school guard.
According to Tumusiime, Atukwatse was caught by the school guard, who then locked him inside the store until the head teacher and police arrived.
He claimed that when police arrived to the school at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday to pick up the student, they discovered his body hanging on the window panes. Tumusiime believes the youngster could have committed suicide by hanging himself with his belt.
Tumusiime said the deceased’s body was brought to Rugazi health facility IV mortuary for a postmortem while the case is being investigated.
