Drama As Police Net Besigye In Downtown Kampala
Dr. Kizza Besigye, a political activist, dodged security personnel at his residence in Kasangati, Wakiso District, on Tuesday and made his way to downtown Kampala before being apprehended at Arua Park.
People cheered as the former president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) arrived in the city center, paralyzing business.
He arrived at the city center with megaphones affixed on his automobile, urging people to “wake up and resist the soaring commodity prices and the ridiculous succession birthday,” as he put it.
“We must fight this war and ensure that the high-price situation is addressed,” Dr. Besigye cried from his automobile as the crowd applauded him.
When police encircled his car and pulled him out, his quest was stopped short.
By the time this report was published, the four-time presidential candidate had been taken to Kampala’s Central Police Station.
This is the fourth time Dr. Besigye has been detained in connection with his repeated protests against rising food prices.
