Buganda Kingdom, Airtel Uganda Unveil 2022 Kabaka Birthday Run Kits
At a press conference held at Bulange-Mengo, Buganda Kingdom Headquarters, Airtel Uganda, in collaboration with the Buganda Kingdom, unveiled the 2022 Kabaka Birthday Run kit.
Airtel Uganda has sponsored the Kabaka Birthday Run, an annual event commemorating Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s birthday celebrations, for the previous nine years. The 2022 run, like the previous year, will be dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS and will be themed “Men Against AIDS to Save the Girl Child,” with the goal of raising awareness about the disease and encouraging men to take the lead by encouraging them to get tested, treated, and ultimately protect women from infection.
According to the most recent UNAIDS Data fact sheet, around 5000 young women aged 15–24 years are infected with HIV every week, and in Sub-Saharan Africa, girls account for six out of every seven new HIV infections among adolescents aged 15–19 years. According to the data, young women between the ages of 15 and 24 are twice as likely as men to have HIV.
“Airtel is privileged to be a part of the Kabaka Birthday Run,” stated Airtel Uganda MD Manoj Murali during the press conference. This year marks the ninth year of our cooperation with Buganda Kingdom, which we are proud of because of the great impact it has in the areas where we work.
“I would want to promise our future commitment and support to the Buganda Kingdom on behalf of Airtel Uganda as we try to change the lives of Ugandans through such programs,” he added.
The Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Owek graced the kit unveiling event. “The biggest weapon we need in this fight is information, information based on research that will uphold the UNAIDS mission to eliminate the virus spread by 2030, and to achieve this we must embark on sensitization drives like what we do through initiatives like the Kabaka Birthday Run,” said Charles Peter Mayiga, adding, “The biggest weapon we need in this fight is information, information based on research that will uphold the UNAIDS mission to eliminate the virus spread by 2030, and to achieve this we must embark on sensitization drives
“We appreciate Airtel’s support over the years to the Kingdom and the entire country,” Owek. Mayiga said. We hope that your contribution to the marathon will make a significant difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS.”
Airtel Shop New Taxi Park, Shoprite – Ben Kiwanuka, and Thobani Centre are among the locations where kits can be purchased. Alternatively, you can use Airtel Money by phoning *185#, selecting payments, entering the amount plus their PIN to validate the payment, and then picking up your Kit at the specified locations.
The run will begin on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, and will be flagged off by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
“I would like to encourage Ugandans who have utilized technology to improve the lives of others to share their stories as part of the Airtel Uganda Needs More of You Campaign to inspire others.” Manoj finished.
