Following the expiration of the current executive’s mandate, the overseeing body of the Uganda Musician Association (UMA) began the nomination process for the new governing body a few days ago.

Cinderella Sanyu, alias Cindy, the current president of the association, has already chosen her forms and is prepared to defend her position.

Cindy took over for Ykee Benda, who abruptly resigned in 2021. She told journalists after her nomination that the members of the association should trust her again so that she could fully exhaust her intended plans.

Cindy claims that she came into the office during the COVID-19 lockdown, which hampered her plans, and that she now wants a chance to fully execute them.

However, no major musicians have come out in support of Cindy for the position. However, she believes that upcountry artists will overwhelmingly vote for her to be re-elected.

Ssemanda Mansoor, better known as King Saha, appears to be a formidable opponent for the ‘Boom Party’ singer.

Since filling out the forms, Saha has been working overtime to persuade fellow artists to support his bid. Several well-known singers, including Bobi Wine, Nubian Li, Jose Chameleone, Weasel, Pallaso, Sheebah Karungi, and Ykee Benda, have publicly expressed their support for Saha.

Bebe Cool, a singer who goes by the stage name Moses Ssali, came out to criticize Saha. He claimed that his appearance is unfit for a leader.

“Though I have reservations about Cindy’s leadership abilities, she is at least a better candidate than Saha,” he said.

To begin with, UMA has yet to specify how the voting will be conducted. However, according to sources, the voting will be limited to UMA members whose total number is unknown.

Although the association has yet to announce an official voting date, we have learned that elections will be held in May.

Other candidates for other positions include Bebe Cool’s elder son, Allan Hendrick Byamukama, alias Paper Daddy, Daddy Andre, and Kalifah Aganaga.

Allan Toniks is running for secretary, Irene Namatovu is running for women’s affairs, and Geosteady is running for finance.
