By Gad Masereka Kampala,Uganda:Col. (rtd) Charles Okello Engola, the state minister for labor, employment, and industrial relations, was shot and killed by his security on May 2 in Kampala. At his home in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb, Engola, 64, was shot in the leg and stomach at around 8 am by the guard, Pte Wilson Sabiti. Later, in the nearby salon, the guard turned the pistol on himself to end his life. Ronald Otim, his personal assistant, also suffered serious wounds during the shooting rampage and was sent to Mulago Hospital for care. According to reports from Kyanja, Chris Baryomunsi, minister of ICT and national direction, Minister Engola was shot while his route to a Cabinet meeting. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the occurrence and said that security forces had cordoned off the crime site as investigations into determining the reason for the shooting immediately got under way. Engola’s lifeless corpse was discovered next to the minister’s official Land Cruiser, as shown in a crime scene photograph. The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, and CID Director Tom Magambo raced to the deceased’s home early on Tuesday to supervise the investigation into the appalling and gory murder, according to a statement from police spokesperson Fred Enanga. “One of his bodyguards is accused of shooting him at close range many times at his Kyanja home.
