Two Sites Identified for Nuclear Power Plant Construction in Uganda
Once operational, the power plant is projected to generate 2000 MW of electricity, expected by early 2030.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Atomic Energy Council has disclosed that phase one of the nuclear power plant construction has been successfully completed. The Ministry of Energy remains steadfast in its site selection process, with two potential locations identified in Buyende and Kiruhura. Ongoing assessments are nearing completion and are expected to finalize the decision soon.
Upon completion, the power plant is projected to generate 2000 MW of electricity, with the target for operational status set for early 2030.
The government has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the development of human resources through investments in training programs focused on nuclear science and technology. Furthermore, significant resources have been allocated to strengthen the capabilities of the Atomic Energy Council, enabling it to effectively manage activities related to phase one and subsequent phases of the project, including the crucial review of the Atomic Energy Act.
