Ntungamo, January 14, 2024 – A shocking incident unfolded in Kyanyanzira village, Nyanga parish, Rubare sub-county, Ntungamo District, as an 11-year-old boy, Ariiho Patrick, fell victim to a brutal murder by cutting on January 14, 2024, at approximately 11:00 hrs.

According to the report filed by Basiima Stephen, the local chairman of Kyanyanzira village, the suspect, identified as Nelson Akandwanaho, who is also known to the deceased as his uncle, was discovered cutting Patrick’s feet into pieces in his own house. The shocking discovery was made when a concerned neighbor, Alex, received information about the gruesome act and mobilized villagers to confront the suspect.

Upon reaching Akandwanaho’s residence and peering through the door, the horrified crowd witnessed the suspect violently resisting arrest. Eventually, the villagers managed to apprehend him, and during interrogation, Akandwanaho confessed that some of the body parts were disposed of in his toilet, while others were thrown into a neighboring toilet owned by the deceased’s grandfather. The suspect was promptly escorted to Omungyenyi police post.

The police took swift action, registering the incident as a murder by cutting under CRB 66/2024 at CPS Ntungamo. The Homicide team from CPS Ntungamo visited the crime scene, documenting evidence with the assistance of the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO). Statements were recorded from witnesses, and the body was examined at the scene, awaiting a postmortem report (PF 48c).

Investigations have revealed that the suspect has a history of mental illness. Moreover, the chilling act took place while the deceased’s grandparents were away at church, leaving Ariiho Patrick alone at home. The grisly findings include body parts found in the suspect’s toilet, and others retrieved from the grandparents’ toilet. Shockingly, certain body parts, including a leg, one arm, one foot, and fingers, were already severed into pieces and placed in a saucepan, presumably for cooking.

Nelson Akandwanaho is now in police custody as investigations unfold, and the community remains in shock as they grapple with the horrifying details surrounding this tragic incident.
