Accident Again: Three Perish In A Taxi Accident Along Kampala-Masindi Road
By Gad Masereka
At least three persons were killed on the spot after a single deadly accident involving a passenger taxi with the registration number UAX, 303F that was traveling from Masindi to Kampala.
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, roughly 10 kilometers from Migyera Town, according to traffic police PRO Faridah Nampiima.
“A tyre broke on the cab, and it lost control, crashing and killing three persons on the spot – two female adults and one female youngster,” Nampiima said in a statement.
The injured had been taken to local health centers for first aid treatment while police began their investigations as of press time.
The catastrophe occurs at a time when authorities from the traffic police and the Ministry of Transportation are confused by the rising number of “unavoidable” road accidents.
Accidents have been on the rise on Ugandan roads during the previous few months.
A mid-morning tragedy on the Fort Portal-Kyenjojo road earlier this month saw a Kampala-bound Link bus registration number UBA 003S overturn, killing 20 people on the scene and injuring many more.
According to a police investigation released later that week, at least 103 persons were murdered in six days in separate vehicle accidents around the country.
According to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, 10 persons die in road traffic accidents in Uganda every day. This is the highest figure in East Africa.
