Kampala, Uganda: A section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth leaders from across Uganda have endorsed Siyemah Atukunda for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament seat, positioning her as a frontrunner ahead of the ruling party’s upcoming primaries.

During a strategic meeting held in Kampala on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, attended by district and division NRM Youth League leaders from the different subregions, the delegates pledged full support to Siyemah, describing her as the most relatable and agenda-driven candidate in the race.

Siyemah, while addressing the youth leaders, used the platform to unveil her “Transformational Youth Agenda” as a slogan she is fronting in her manifesto, pledging to tackle widespread issues such as youth unemployment, corruption in youth-focused government programs, sexual and reproductive health gaps, and limited youth representation in national policy frameworks.

“The young people of Uganda are not asking for favours, they are demanding opportunities,” she said. “This agenda is about inclusive leadership, better program monitoring, and turning the youth demographic into an economic engine.”

Citing the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and Youth Livelihood Programme, Siyemah promised to advocate for more transparent disbursement mechanisms and tougher accountability for fund misuse.

She also pledged to push for youth-friendly reforms in business registration, agricultural financing, and digital skilling. “We must go beyond launching programs. We need to know where the money goes, who benefits, and why some districts are left behind,” Siyemah said, calling for more active youth oversight over government interventions.

The endorsement meeting featured powerful remarks from several delegates. Nandawula Grace, a delegate from the Wakiso NRM Youth League, commended Siyemah’s hands-on involvement in grassroots issues, noting her role in community audits and mobilisation around government projects.

From Kagadi District, Herbert Nuwagaba, the Chairperson of the District’s Youth League, urged delegates not to be swayed by candidates lacking substance or consistency. “Siyemah knows what is failing the youth, especially the girl child in rural areas. She has solutions, not just slogans,” Nuwagaba said.

NRM Roadmap for Youth MP Primaries

According to the official NRM Electoral Commission, internal party primaries for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), including Youth MPs, are scheduled to begin with district-level vetting and regional consultations, and the final delegate elections will where the party flagbearers for Youth MPs will be on August 22, 2025

Only candidates endorsed by party structures and cleared by the NRM EC will be allowed to stand in the final party primaries. These results will feed into the broader National Youth Council (NYC) election cycle.

National Youth Council & EC Roadmap 2025

The Electoral Commission of Uganda, through its SIG election roadmap, announced that National Youth Council elections will take place between October and November 2025. These elections will produce the electoral college responsible for voting five Youth MPs in Parliament, one for each region and one national female representative.

The electoral college comprises: district youth conference delegates, five county youth executives, and two sub-county delegates (male and female) per district.
