Kigoogwa Incident: Minister Kabbyanga Delivers 5 Million Shillings to Bereaved Family in Kayunga

In the wake of the devastating Kigoogwa fire incident, which has now claimed 34 lives, the government continues to provide financial assistance and condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
This support aims to alleviate the immediate burdens faced by the grieving families as they navigate the loss of their loved ones.
The Minister of State for National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, visited Kayunga District, where he delivered a condolence package of 5 million shillings to the family of the late Edward Mwebaza.
Mwebaza, one of the victims of the explosion, sustained fatal burns and was recently laid to rest at his ancestral home.
During the visit, Minister Kabbyanga offered words of comfort to Mwebaza’s mother and pledged continued government support to the affected families.
He expressed sympathy, stating, “Losing a loved one in such a tragic and unforeseen incident is a heavy burden. The government will do all it can to stand by the families affected during this difficult time.”
To honor the deceased, the minister laid a wreath on Mwebaza’s grave, reflecting the government’s commitment to recognizing the lives lost in the incident.
The explosion, which occurred along the Kampala-Bombo Road when a fuel tanker burst into flames, has left numerous families in mourning and raised concerns about the safety of fuel transportation across Uganda’s roadways.
As of now, government representatives, including various ministers, have delivered condolence funds directly to burial sites, offering immediate financial assistance to at least 25 families impacted by the incident.
On October 22, 2024, a fuel tanker overturned on the Kampala-Bombo road in Kigoogwa after the driver lost control, leading to a deadly explosion that claimed several lives. Preliminary investigations reveal that the explosion was ignited when a person nearby accidentally knocked over a charcoal stove, which then came into contact with the spilled fuel.
