Five Killed In Separate Road Accident In Kasese District

At least five people lost their lives and seven others were injured in two separate road crashes in Kasese District on Monday, local authorities reported.

The first incident occurred along the Kasese-Fort Portal Highway at Makumiani in Kasese Municipality’s Nyamwamba Division. A sinotruck collided with a motorcycle carrying two passengers, killing the motorcyclist and both passengers instantly. Another individual sustained serious injuries in the crash. The deceased were identified as 23-year-old Morris Thembo (motorcyclist), Allan Masereka, and Isoma Boyi, all residents of Buhathi-Kasangali Cell in Bwesumbu Sub-county.

Eyewitness Daneri Muhindo described the scene: “The vehicle was heading to Kasese when it reached the Katooke junction, knocking down a pedestrian who is now critically injured. The driver then lost control and rammed into the motorcycle coming from Kasese Town heading towards Hima.”

In a separate incident in Nyangereka, Hima Town Council, a head-on collision between two motorcycles resulted in the immediate death of both riders, identified as 44-year-old Wilson Rukendakenda and a man known as Boy Nyaflow. Four passengers were injured and rushed to various medical facilities for treatment.

On the same day, a Fuso vehicle overturned along the Kinyamaseke-Munkunyu Road in Bukonzo County East. The driver was critically injured and taken to Kagando Hospital, while two other occupants were treated at Kinyamaseke Health Centre III.

Kasese Municipal Health Centre’s in-charge, James Mwiruwabo, confirmed that the facility’s mortuary was holding five bodies from these accidents.

Acting Rwenzori East Regional Police Public Relations Officer SP Luka Mbusa urged road users to exercise caution. “Most of these accidents are due to human error, which can be avoided. Motorcycles should only carry one passenger, but they often carry two, which is against regulations. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact causes of these accidents,” SP Mbusa stated.
