Hoima City is reeling from a shocking incident where a man allegedly assaulted his wife after she refused to engage in sexual activity. Steven Nyakatura, a 42-year-old resident of Kibati cell in Hoima East City Division, is currently in police custody for the assault on his wife, Christian Murungi. The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 22, 2024, has left Murungi in critical condition.

According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the regional police spokesperson for the Albertine region, Nyakatura purportedly used a high-heeled shoe to beat Murungi after she declined his sexual advances. The altercation reportedly began after Murungi refused intimacy because Nyakatura had refused to bathe, leading to a heated argument.

In a disturbing turn of events, Nyakatura allegedly resorted to violence, punching Murungi and causing severe injuries to her head, neck, and other parts of her body. Hakiza further revealed that Nyakatura attempted to cover up the assault by falsely claiming to his friends that he had caught his wife with another man, inciting a fight.

As Murungi receives treatment at Divine Clinic Duhaga, Hakiza has issued a cautionary statement, urging men to exercise patience and understanding in such situations. He emphasized that women may have their own reasons for refusing sexual intimacy and that resorting to violence is unacceptable.

The case underscores the importance of addressing domestic violence and promoting healthy communication within relationships. Authorities are expected to prosecute Nyakatura for his alleged actions, while advocacy groups continue their efforts to raise awareness about gender-based violence in the community.
