Bomb Blast Kills Two Pupils, Injures Two Others In Kaabong
By URN
A bomb explosion has killed two children and injured two others in Kaabong district, northern Uganda.
The deceased include Ayollo Lokutai aged 13 and Lokoel Komol, 12, while Meri Lomonyang aged 9, and Meri Lokiditoi were left with minor injuries. The four were all pupils of Kakamar primary school.
It is reported that on Saturday afternoon, the four boys left home to go and cut trees to fence the goat’s kraal before they landed on the abandoned bomb in Nakituriket village in Kakamar sub-county.
Ayollo reportedly picked up the bomb and started playing with it while hitting the base of the tree under the close watch of Komol. Lomonyang and Lokiditoi were at a distance cutting the tree when the device exploded, killing Lokutai and Komol on the spot.
Meri Jino, LC V chairperson of the Kaabong district told our reporter that the unfortunate incident took them by surprise. He added that the security forces were notified and a team of police detectives visited the scene for further management.
Jino said that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kaabong hospital for postmortem, while the two injured pupils were put on treatment. He noted that the cases of explosive devices are most likely to increase due to the numerous security operations against cattle rustlers in the region.
Jino urged the local community to be vigilant and desist from picking metallic objects that are suspected to be explosive. He added that people should report to the authorities about anything suspicious they come across.
