The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has welcomed 102 members who have defected from the opposition, primarily the FDC and NUP, to join the ruling party. These individuals, hailing from Karambi Subcounty in Bukonzo West, were received by Minister of State for National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku.

Under the mobilization Forum for Karambi Subcounty NRM cadres, led by Baluku Seezi Lyamikono, it was stated that they successfully persuaded members of the opposition to join the NRM, citing the initiatives developed by the ruling party that have significantly improved people’s livelihoods.

The members were formally received by Minister of State for National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga, who acknowledged that Bukonzo West has long been branded as an opposition stronghold. He emphasized the importance of strengthening local NRM units to penetrate opposition cells effectively.

Expressing gratitude for the implementation of the Parish Development Model, which has benefited residents, the members noted that many NRM cadres in Karambi Parish are not benefiting due to the absence of solid NRM leadership at the sub-county level.

They also highlighted issues such as a lack of cooperation within the NRM ranks, which has led many members to identify with the opposition. Furthermore, they expressed dismay over the insufficient political support, resulting in poor NRM mobilization during and after elections.

The members requested support to enhance their livelihood projects, emphasizing the need for sustained assistance. In response, the Minister encouraged the cadres to form groups to attract government support for projects such as poultry and piggery farming. He reassured them of his continued support whenever requested.
