Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura Welcomes Baby Girl
Political activist and Kampala City Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, has welcomed a new addition to her family, a baby girl named Rena. The joyous news was shared by opposition stalwart Dr. Kizza Besigye, who posted heartwarming pictures of himself with Nyanjura and the newborn on social media.
In his post, Besigye congratulated Nyanjura, affectionately known as ‘Mama Rena’ and ‘Omutatina’ (one never afraid), on her latest blessing. He expressed delight at holding baby Rena and wished the family blessings always.
This marks Nyanjura’s second child, as she already has a nine-year-old daughter. The 33-year-old political figure, born in Nyamabuga, Kyenjojo District, is known for her activism and outspoken views on feminism and gender equality.
Nyanjura describes herself as a feminist and gender scholar, advocating for women’s rights and challenging traditional gender roles. She is known for her controversial opinions, encouraging women not to kneel and speaking against the concept of women solely as housewives.
In a statement reflecting her views on partnership and marriage, Nyanjura said, “I am married to the ‘struggle’. I don’t have a husband, and I have told people that I don’t intend to have a husband, but I intend to have a partner because when you look at the husband in the African sense of the word, you know what I mean when I talk of a husband. For me, I have a partner, I don’t have a husband.”
