The Vice Chairperson for the National Resistance Movement Western Region, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has clarified that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is an activist group, a civil society group, and a pressure group formerly known as MK movement, which is not a department or an offspring of NRM.

He stated that NRM remains solid and is guided by its constitution, rules, procedures, and regulations in place, emphasizing that it is not yet time to discuss the involvement of PLU in the 2026 General Elections by fronting a candidate of their choice.

Dr. Baryomunsi noted that there are internal procedures to process all applications, including the Central Executive Committee (CEC) assessing the names of those with the intent to stand for the presidency, making recommendations to the National Executive Committee, convening the national conference, presenting a report, and eventually electing a flag bearer.

He emphasized that despite NRM’s firm stance and confidence in President Museveni to lead the country further, the NRM Electoral Commission will call for those with an interest in standing for the presidency and other positions at the right time. He is hopeful that Museveni will offer himself, and members of NRM will overwhelmingly support him under the “Tova ku main” slogan. This was his response to NRM members inquiring whether to front the PLU Leader or an NRM leader for the presidency.
