The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has officially commenced the recruitment process for enumerators for the upcoming National Population and Housing Census scheduled for May. With the aim to hire over 110,000 enumerators, UBOS is calling upon eligible Ugandans to apply for these crucial roles.

Enumerators will play a vital role in the census exercise, assisting with groundwork such as mapping out village-based census areas and conducting door-to-door community mobilization. Additionally, during the census period from May 9th to 19th, they will be responsible for collecting essential information on individuals, households, institutions, and communities in their assigned areas.

To qualify for the enumerator positions, applicants must meet specific criteria:

  • Age: Any Ugandan aged between 18 and 50 years is eligible.
  • Education: An “A” level certificate or its equivalent is required, with a minimum credit in English and Mathematics at “O” level.
  • Recommendation: Prospective enumerators need to be recommended by local authorities in their respective LC 1 areas.
  • Character and Language: Applicants must be of good conduct, sound mind, and fluent in the local languages spoken in their enumeration areas.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic knowledge in computer applications is necessary.
  • National Identity: A valid National Identity Card issued by NIRA is mandatory. It is emphasized that the phone numbers registered under the applicant’s name are essential for the payment process.

Chris Mukiza, the Executive Director of UBOS, stressed the importance of ensuring that applicants’ phone numbers are registered in their names, as failure to do so may affect payment. Additionally, smartphones will serve as a backup plan in case the tablets provided malfunction or do not arrive on time.

Interested individuals can submit their applications through the UBOS portal before the deadline on March 15th.

This recruitment drive marks a crucial step in ensuring the success and accuracy of the upcoming National Population and Housing Census. UBOS encourages eligible Ugandans to seize this opportunity to contribute to the country’s data collection efforts.
