Social media has been flooded with pictures of a Link bus driver who allegedly parked the bus and died under circumstances yet to be determined. Tom Alinde, the Public Relations Officer for Link Bus Services, has expressed dissatisfaction and dismissed the posts as false and baseless. He stated that the driver, Olung Nelson, while transporting passengers to Kasese, felt unwell around Lwera, a few kilometers from Kyegegwa town. Nelson opted to safely park by the roadside, displaying a high level of professionalism to ensure the safety of the passengers onboard. Although Nelson commenced his normal duties from Kampala in stable condition, he began feeling unwell past Mubende and informed the bus crew of his condition. Upon stopping, the conductor informed the passengers about the incident, urging calm and informing them of a contingency plan. Another driver, Kyaligonza Samuel from Fort Portal, was dispatched to relieve Nelson of his duties and ensure the passengers reached their destination. Samuel arrived at the parked bus and took over the responsibility of transporting the passengers to Kasese.

Tom Alinde clarified that the images alleging Nelson’s death at the steering wheel are false, and the intentions of those spreading such unverified information are unknown. He urged the public not to panic, as anyone can fall ill under any circumstance. Nelson was admitted to Kyegegwa and diagnosed with malaria, which was identified as an acute infection. Tom commended Nelson for his professionalism and praised the passengers for remaining calm until an alternative plan was implemented to transport them to their destination.
