Police Operation Nets 14 Gang Members in Crackdown on Criminal Activities
Ssezibwa Region, January 8, 2024 – In a targeted and intelligence-driven operation, the Territorial Police in Ssezibwa region, in collaboration with Njeru division, successfully apprehended 14 individuals actively involved in various criminal activities such as muggings, knife-point attacks, robberies, and smash-and-grab incidents. The coordinated raids took place in multiple hideouts, including locations behind Hared Petrol Station, Wampala zone, Njeru West ward, Njeru central, municipality, and Nile Lower Nara zone.
The arrested suspects, ranging in age from 12 to 25 years, were found in possession of knives, breaking implements, and marijuana. The police identified the gang members as Baluka Francis, Senyongo Asraf, Odeya James, Runamanyire Sam, Muhaya Hassan, Gumisiriza James, Yusuf Ziwa, Omaset Victor, Ogenrwoth Fortunate, Matovu Yasin, Lugya Micheal, Lule Muhammed, Okumu Peter, Onen Franco, and Anguyo Ronnie.
According to the police report, the gang operated as smaller groups, consisting of 5 to 6 members, and targeted random individuals in areas identified as blackspots, including patrons of Forever Resort. The crackdown, executed on January 8, 2024, aimed to disrupt and dismantle criminal gangs in Njeru Municipality.
Law enforcement officials highlighted that the ongoing operations are part of a broader initiative to restore peace and safety in the region. The police remain vigilant in their efforts to curtail criminal activities, ensuring the well-being and security of residents.
