Police Officer Brutally Hacked To Death In Kaabong, Gun Stolen In Shocking Attack
In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through Kaabong District, a police officer identified as Mr Morris Ochen was brutally hacked to death by suspected Karamojong warriors. The assailants, who remain unidentified, carried out the gruesome attack on the evening of January 12 around 9:00 pm in Kurao village, Kalapata Sub County.
Mr Ochen, attached to the Kotido ASTU zone and part of a joint mobile operations squad, fell victim to the ruthless assault while moving alone in the line of duty. The attackers not only claimed his life but also made off with his SMG gun, registered as No. UG POL 56-6503651-56725, along with ninety (90) rounds of ammunition.
The Mount Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Michael Longole, confirmed the tragic incident, expressing deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the region. He reported that the police have launched operations and deployed a canine dog to the crime scene in Kurao village, hoping to gather additional information that could lead to the identification of the assailants.
“The deceased was hacked to death by unknown assailants who were moving alone,” stated Mr Longole, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Mr Meri Jino, the LCV Chairperson of Kaabong, echoed these concerns, highlighting a disturbing resurgence of insecurity characterized by murders perpetrated by unknown armed warriors. He expressed worry over the situation, pointing to a potential link with individuals who evaded the disarmament exercise in the past.
“These are criminals, I think people who ran away from the disarmament [exercise],” remarked Mr Jino.
This tragic event follows closely on the heels of another violent incident on January 6, where a group of unidentified armed warriors raided Komuria West Trading Center. In that attack, one person lost their life, and the assailants further stole money from a local bar, intensifying the apprehension and security challenges faced by the community.
The authorities in Kaabong have now mobilized efforts to collaborate with security forces to hunt down the suspects behind these heinous crimes. As the community grapples with the loss of Mr Morris Ochen and the prevailing insecurity, there is a collective call for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of safety to the region.
