In response to journalist Elizabeth Kamurungi of the Daily Monitor, President Museveni refrained from confirming his candidacy for the 2026 presidential election.

When asked about Uganda’s history of non-peaceful power transitions, the president emphasized the need for a measured discussion at the appropriate time. President Museveni expressed his concern about such inquiries raising blood pressure, stating, “Ugandans have enough problems; why am I the focus here, as if I am the problem? When I leave should be discussed rationally.” He highlighted that the decision for 2026 would be made, emphasizing that transitions occur every five years.
