In a targeted operation to curb rising criminal activities, the Police in Mbarara City apprehended 41 individuals on Wednesday in various locations, including the Kakoba roundabout at a tree shade, Lubiri, and behind London Arcade corridors. The suspects were found in possession of marijuana and tools commonly used in housebreaking.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, stated that the intelligence-led operation was prompted by numerous complaints from the public and the business community regarding criminals breaking into shops and ambushing individuals on the streets.

Francis Basiime, the Chairperson of Kiswahili Cell, welcomed the initiative and emphasized the need for such operations to be conducted regularly. He highlighted the escalating crime rate in the city, particularly as the festive season approaches.

Basiime conveyed that cell chairpersons have committed to maintaining vigilance at all times and urged the public to promptly report any unknown individuals in their communities to the police.

Kasasira emphasized that these crackdown operations have been intensified in the region as a proactive measure ahead of the festive season, aiming to ensure the safety and security of residents during this period.
