President Yoweri Museveni acknowledges receipt of a letter from His Eminence Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, addressing controversies surrounding the sale of Muslim properties. While aware of the disputes, Museveni initially relied on national institutions, including the judiciary, assuming they could amicably handle the matter.

Discontent arises as Mufti Mubajje’s letter reveals plans to auction the National Mosque at Old Kampala. Museveni questions the audacity of endorsing such a sale, emphasizing, “What sane person, let alone a judge, can make such orders?” He expresses disbelief that a mosque or church could be targeted for debts carelessly entered into by officials of the faith.Museveni insists on the application of common sense in the absence of laws protecting places of worship.

He directs the Chief Justice to review the matter, restore sanity, and address allegations of misconduct and collusion. The President asserts that the NRM freedom fighters and their government cannot be associated with such flawed logic.
