In a devastating incident this afternoon, a bus belonging to Kingo Coaches Ltd overturned, resulting in numerous injuries and at least one casualty. The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 pm during a heavy downpour, further complicating already challenging road conditions.

Eyewitness Samson Joseph Ssekitto provided a harrowing account of the scene, detailing how the bus, traveling at high speed, skidded off the road while attempting to overtake an unidentified trailer. The wet road surface proved to be treacherous, and the driver struggled to maintain control, leading to the tragic outcome.

“The surface was wet, and the driver failed to control the bus as he tried to overtake a trailer in a sharp corner. Many occupants sustained injuries,” Ssekitto reported.

Despite immediate response efforts, one woman lost her life in the accident, and authorities are working to identify the deceased. Jamada Wandera, the acting southern regional police spokesperson, disclosed that among the 57 survivors, 15 were children. At least 3 youngsters and 15 adults suffered serious injuries.

Wandera revealed that the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, prompting authorities to launch a search for his apprehension. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident may have been caused by the driver’s excessive speed, especially considering the challenging wet road conditions.

“We are hunting for him [bus driver] to face the law,” Wandera affirmed, underscoring the importance of holding individuals accountable for road safety.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any additional information that may aid in the ongoing investigation.
