Ntungamo District was struck by tragedy on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023, as a fatal accident unfolded, claiming the lives of three individuals. The incident, reported by the Police at around 1:20 pm, involved two vehicles: UBN 375Q Subaru Forester and UBP314A Toyota Hiace, both at Kahunga trading center along the Ntungamo-Mbarara road.

According to the Rwizi region Police spokesman, the victims have been identified as Manirakiza Moses, 29, an engineer and resident of Burungu village, Muramba sub-county in Kisoro district, who was driving the Subaru Forester. The second victim is Twesigye Kenneth, 31, an engineer with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, and a resident of Rwikiniro village, Ruhaama sub-county in Ntungamo district; he was a passenger in the Subaru Forester. The third victim is Mujurizi Herbert, also known as Rough, a resident of Rukungiri district and the driver of the taxi (UBP314A).

Police spokesman Kasasira informed the press that the Subaru was traveling from Mbarara to Ntungamo in rainy conditions. As the vehicle approached Kahunga trading center, the road on its lane was covered with running water. The driver decided to swerve to the right, violating the right of way of the oncoming UBP314A from the opposite direction, resulting in a head-on collision.

Tragically, the three individuals lost their lives in the collision, and 13 passengers in the taxi suffered injuries. The injured victims were promptly admitted to Itojo Hospital for medical attention.

Kasasira revealed that the bodies of the deceased were transported to Itojo Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been towed and are currently parked at Ntungamo Police Station awaiting inspection.

The accident is particularly poignant as it claimed the life of Eng. Kenneth Twesigye, who had been introduced by his fiancée, Prize Patience, in Rukungiri district just a day before the tragic incident. The couple had planned to tie the knot on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at St. Luke Ntinda, followed by a celebration at Hotel Africana in Kampala.”
