Mpondwe Bridge Collapses, Business At Stand-still

Business has been paralyzed along the boarder of Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo after Mpondwe River bridge collapsed.

Lt. Maate Magwara the Deputy RDC Kasese District in charge of Bukonzo county says the incident happened because of people vandalizing the bridge.He says the incident happened during day hours of Friday after a heavy down pour in the area.

He told our reporter that security has deployed on both sides to to protect the heavy trucks transiting through the Mpondwe Lhubiriha Border . It’s estimated that on a daily basis over 300 trucks cross that bridge for business between the two countries.

Some of the business people at the border including Mrs Annet Mbambu and specizio Kabugho say the incident has affected their sales .More details will come in our subsequent bulletins.
