Residents of Komamboga Central Zone in Kawempe Division, a suburb of Kampala city, are in disbelief following the unexplained deaths of three individuals, including the site engineer, in a newly constructed septic tank. Eyewitnesses suggest that the trio lost their lives while working on the pipes within the septic tank, speculating that they may have suffocated at the tank’s bottom around 11:00 am.

Noah Mukasa Sserumaga, the chairperson of Komamboga Central, recounted that one builder descended into the septic tank to lay pipes but failed to return. Concerned, his colleague followed suit, but he too did not come back. The site engineer then descended into the tank, meeting the same fate. Shocked residents identified the site owner as James Ssaaka, noting that all the deceased were newcomers to the area.

A response team, led by Kawempe District Police Commander Robert Kuzala, managed to retrieve the bodies around 2:00 pm after waiting for hours for a rescue team from Clock Tower, the Fire and Rescue Police services headquarters. Kuzala confirmed the initiation of investigations to determine the precise cause of the deaths. The police have cordoned off the site, urging residents not to interfere with the crime scene during the ongoing investigations.

Expressing their dismay, residents appealed to the police to establish emergency rescue teams at each police division to enhance life-saving efforts. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the city mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem examinations as the investigation into the cause of death continues.
