In a shocking revelation, social commentator Frank M. Gashumba recounts a recent near-death experience when he opted for a special hire after a punctured tire. To his dismay, the cab driver at 8 am was visibly intoxicated, raising serious concerns about Uganda’s failure to enforce laws. Gashumba highlights the potential risks this poses to passengers and the urgent need for stricter regulations in the transportation sector.

Gashumba, recently returning from Rwanda, expresses admiration for the remarkable infrastructural development in the neighboring country. Drawing sharp contrasts with Uganda’s messy streets and lackluster progress, he applauds Rwanda’s leader, Paul Kagame, citing the transformation achieved with a comparatively modest budget of 12 billion dollars. This serves as a poignant critique of Uganda’s leadership and governance issues.

Former head of the State House anti-corruption unit, Col. Edith Nakalema, shared insights with Gashumba on the syndicate nature of corruption in Uganda. Gashumba emphasizes the stark difference in approach, noting that in Rwanda, even knowledge of a corruption deal can lead to imprisonment. In contrast, he criticizes Uganda for rewarding wrongdoers with promotions, underscoring the need for a more stringent stance against corruption to protect taxpayers’ money.

Turning to a deeply personal matter, Gashumba expresses dissatisfaction with the verdict in the Desire Mirembe murder case. Despite commendation for the efforts of Judge Stanley Kaweesa, Gashumba argues that the killer, Mathew Kirabo, deserves a harsher penalty than the 30-year prison sentence handed down. Gashumba passionately describes the gruesome details of the crime and advocates for a punishment befitting the severity of the act.

In a disturbing turn, Gashumba reveals attempts by the killer’s family to bribe him with 250 million Ugandan shillings. Despite the substantial sum offered as “blood money,” Gashumba stood firm, underscoring the corruption embedded in the justice system. He details Kirabo’s repeated attempts to skip bail, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts of security agencies, including CID, INTERPOL, and individuals like Afande Grace Akulo and Col. Edith Nakalema, in ensuring the killer’s extradition from Nairobi.

Post-mortem evidence presented in court reveals the killer’s medical background, indicating a deliberate and calculated act. Gashumba passionately argues that Mathew Kirabo does not deserve to live another second. His revelations serve as a powerful call to action, urging Uganda to address issues of public safety, corruption, and the justice system to ensure a safer and more just society.
