Four Die, Others Suffer Critical Injuries In A Deadly Accident In Kassanda.

After a Fuso truck carrying matooke lost control and toppled in the early hours of Sunday morning, four persons perished instantly and three others suffered critical injuries in a deadly accident in Kassanda.

The horrific accident happened at Myanzi Trading Centre, which is located along the Mubende-Mityana route in the district of central Uganda, at around three in the morning.

Preliminary investigations, according to Ms. Kawala Racheal, spokesperson for the Wamala Regional Police, show that the killer vehicle, a black Fuso Fighter with the registration number UAY 415C, which was carrying matooke and traveling from Mubende to Kampala, suffered a brake failure.

“It is alleged that the car lost control and turned over, killing four people instantly and wounding three more. The identities of the deceased are still pending confirmation, according to ASP Kawala in a police statement released early on Sunday.

She named the victims who had been hurt as follows:

40-year-old Nambusi Grace is a local of Namasuba-Kikajo in the Wakiso District.

Businessman Bright Patrick, age 34, resides in Kibiri-Busabaala, Wakiso District.

Nadunga Lydia, a 42-year-old resident of Kalerwe and a businesswoman.

According to the regional police PRO, the injured people were transported to Mityana Hospital for the required medical attention while police properly documented and investigated the location of the occurrence to determine the actual cause of the accident.

The deceased’s bodies have also been moved to the mortuary at Kassanda Health Center IV where they will await postmortem tests.

The Fuso truck involved in the collision has been transported to the Myanzi Police Station for an Inspection of Vehicles (IOV) evaluation, according to Kawala.

Such sad events serve as a stark reminder of how important it is to drive safely, and Kawala urged drivers to make sure the mechanical condition of the vehicles they are operating is optimal.

She added that before starting their excursions, drivers should “not only operate their vehicles prudently, but also ensure the maintenance and functionality of critical systems such as brakes.”

“During this trying time, our thoughts are with the victims and their families. Police advise all drivers to put the safety of their passengers and other road users ahead of their own,” she continued.
