By Gad Masereka
Two people have died in a deadly accident earlier today on the Jinja-Kampala Highway in Kitigoma village, Buikwe District.
The accident involved two motor vehicles, a Fuso Fighter and a Fuel Tanker, according to Ssezibwa region police spokesperson Ms Hellen Butoto.
She confirmed the death of a Fuso driver and his co-driver in an accident on Friday about 5.20 a.m.
“According to preliminary findings, the Fuso Fighter was traveling from Jinja to Kampala when it veered into the lane of oncoming traffic from Kampala, colliding with the Mercedes Benz Fuel Tanker vehicle heading towards Jinja,” Ms Butoto said in a statement on Friday.
“The Fuso driver and turn man were killed in the accident.”
The bodies of the Fuso driver and the turn man, who perished in the collision, are being taken from the truck. The fuel tanker driver and his turn man, who were in severe condition, were taken to Jinja Hospital in the meantime for medical attention, she continued.
At the time of publication, authorities said the two cars were still there, waiting to be towed while an investigation was being done.
All drivers are urged to prioritize road safety and abstain from reckless driving, Ms. Butoto warned.
