SFC soldier tortures nephew to death flees

Joint security agencies are searching for a soldier who is a member of the prestigious Special Forces Command (SFC) after he is accused of torturing and killing his nephew in the Amolatar District after a personal quarrel before running away.

According to reports, Pte Emmanuel Epat, the suspect, is still at large. On Sunday evening, July 16, he allegedly beat his nephew Luke Obia, 25, to death at the soldier’s home in Amolatar Town Council by tying him to a tree. The dead lived in the same neighbourhood as well.

“We have received disturbing information on the passing of a 25-year-old civilian named Luke Obia. In a statement on July 19, Maj Tumwesigye stated: “It is alleged that one Pte Emmanuel Epat of the Special Forces Command (Entebbe) was involved in a family fight that ended in Obia’s death.

He said that inquiries into the claims had started, and searches for the suspect were in progress.

As this violates the UPDF code of conduct and our constitutional obligation to safeguard Ugandans and their property, Maj Tumwesigye continued, “If found to be true, the said soldier will be arrested and brought before the courts of law.”

Maj Tumwesigye said that the police are in charge of the hunt for Pte Epat and are making every effort to capture him so that we can get his perspective. He also claims that there are solid leads as to his possible whereabouts or hiding spot.
