Gov’t To Support Families Of Students Slaughtered In Kasese School Attack
By Gad Masereka
Every family of a student slain in the attack on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese District would receive five million shillings from the government.
More than 40 children in the boarding portion were killed during the suspected ADF rebels’ attack on the institution. On Friday at around 10:30 p.m., right after the students got home from evening preps, the rebels assaulted the school.
John Chrysostom Muyingo, the state’s minister of higher education, said during a late-Saturday visit to the institution that the government must provide assistance to people who are grieving and receiving medical care.
He further stated that the administration would examine how to assist the institution in resuming instruction as soon as feasible.
17 boy bodies have been transported to Fort
Meanwhile, 17 bodies of boys have been taken to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for DNA testing after they were burnt beyond recognition. The other bodies were taken to Bwera General Hospital and will be handed over to the families on Sunday.
In her message delivered on Friday night, the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni said she has no doubt that the perpetrators that killed the Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School students will be got and brought to book.
