Big Shame: A 60 Years Old Grandfather Rape His Own 9 Years Granddaughter

A 60-year-old grandfather has been arrested by the Territorial Police in Kayunga for aggravated sexual assault on his 9-year-old granddaughter.
According to preliminary facts, on 6.12.2021, at around 11.30 a.m., Okou Okellp, a 60-year-old resident of Wunga – Kyebuye village, Kayonza sub-county, Kayunga district, asked his 9-year-old granddaughter to accompany him and check on how the goats were grazing in the fields. While in the fields, he removed the victim’s knicker and began sexually assaulting her. It took the bravery of a young boy (names withheld) to raise an alarm, to which his village mates responded and arrested the suspect.
According to Uganda Police, the threat of sexual abuse of young girls has become so common and serious in modern society that it includes suspects who are very close to them, such as guardians, parents, relatives, teachers, and elders. “All members of the public should be aware that children are vulnerable members of the community who must be protected from all types of sexual predators,” police say.
“In this regard, the victim was repeatedly assaulted by a grandfather, who preyed on the 9-year-old girl victim and significantly breached the trust of guardianship and protection,” Police add.
The UPF, on the other hand, says it is still committed to investigating every case of child sexual abuse and bringing those responsible to justice. “We further implore everyone to remain vigilant and take an interest in the upbringing and well-being of children,” Police say.
