Kampala Police Arrest Suspect for Bag Snatching, Impersonating Officer
Kampala, Uganda – The Kampala Metropolitan Police have taken into custody a suspect, identified as Kuteeka Hassan, over a bag-snatching incident and for possessing a fraudulent police identification card.
Kuteeka, a 38-year-old resident of Musibula Zone, Rubaga Division, allegedly robbed a 17-year-old girl of her handbag.
Authorities recovered an identification card (No. CID 006) bearing a police logo for the Criminal Investigations Department, with Kuteeka’s name inscribed on it, suggesting he was impersonating an officer.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Kawala Rachael, Kuteeka was arrested following a tip-off from the bag-snatching victim on Wednesday.
“His arrest is linked to a bag-snatching incident that occurred in January 2026 at the Nateete traffic lights.
The perpetrators were reportedly travelling in a motor vehicle, registration number UAQ 950P, a Toyota Golf,” Kawala said.
She added that on Wednesday at about 4 p.m., the victim spotted the same vehicle and immediately alerted the police.
Officers responded promptly, arresting Kuteeka, who was found in possession of the fraudulent identification card.
Kawala confirmed that a case of personation has been registered and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
