According to eyewitnesses, the Tata truck was reversing along a narrow stretch of road when it unexpectedly collided with the taxi, which was carrying passengers likely headed to work or early morning appointments. The force of the crash caused significant damage to the taxi, leading to the immediate deaths of four occupants.

“The impact was so severe; it was a horrific scene,” recounted a bystander who arrived at the scene moments after the crash. “The taxi was almost completely destroyed, and there were cries for help from the injured passengers.”

The truck driver, whose identity remains unknown, fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving behind a scene of chaos and grief. Efforts to track down the driver are ongoing, with local authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, and the bodies of the deceased were transported to Luwero Hospital for autopsy and formal identification. Meanwhile, the injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment, with some in critical condition.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident to determine the exact cause and hold the responsible parties accountable. Preliminary reports suggest that poor visibility and the truck driver’s apparent negligence may have contributed to the collision.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of Uganda’s roads, where accidents are a frequent occurrence, often resulting in loss of life. The community in Luwero is now mourning the loss of four of its members, with calls for improved road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility is low and the risks of accidents are heightened.
